MR. T. HODGSON, Scholar of Queen's College, Oxford, who has just completed a University Course in which he has obtained high Mathematical Honours, viz -A First Class in the First Public Examination, and a Second Class in the Final School, is well known to me as a man who has many and strong qualifications for success as a Schoolmaster.
He is a very sound Mathematican, a man of cool judgment and great determination, one who in work and conduct has always a high standard before bim, and spares no effort to attain that standard.
His first year's work in Oxford was directly under my supervision as Mathematical Tutor of Queen's. He was a most encouraging pupil, clear-headed, careful, and systematic, with an intelligent interest in Mathematical Questions, and Since then and the power of orderly expression of his ideas
I have seen enough of him to be sure he has gone on in the same good way. He will take unlimited pains in teaching, will be firm and not easily imposed on, but will be always kindly and considerate.
E. B. ELLIOTT, M.A., F.R.S.,
Waynflete Professor of Pure Mathematics,
sometime Fellow and Mathematical Lecturer,
of Queen's College, Oxford.
